DETECTION CANINE TEAMS

Detection dogs are trained to locate and indicate to the odor of a given item or items. These dogs are commonly used in law enforcement to locate illegal narcotic odors, explosive odors, accelerant odors, or other contraband. Narcotics dogs are the most common of this discipline and these dogs are used to sniff out illegal drugs during vehicle stops, search warrants, in schools, or other locations. Accelerant dogs assist with investigations into fire causation and can sniff out odors such as gasoline, kerosene, and lighter fluid. Other contraband detection dogs include those which are used in the prison system to locate cellular phones, tobacco, and synthetic drugs.
